The rest of April....

April is a bit of a blur because it was busy.  Besides Gavin's birthday we had lots going on.  I have pictures to highlight most of everything, so here goes!

Liam had his 3rd grade Espanolandia after Spring Break.  This is a night for the 3rd graders to experience traveling to Spain.  They have food, stay at a hotel, ride the train, and shop at a store.  They can only speak Spanish so it is a good use of their language skills.  I was SO impressed with Liam.  He is doing so well at speaking and understanding the Spanish language.  He has had some great teachers so far to help him along the way. They also did some Spanish dancing for us which is why he is dressed the way he is.

Liam with his best buddy Ezra.

Liam with his dance partner, Mia.  (He may or may not of have a little crush on her) ;)

Ashlyn has been playing soccer this Spring.  She was a little unsure of it all at first, but has gained some confidence over the weeks and is playing awesome now!  We have enjoyed watching her play except for the rainy games. (and we have had a ton of rain) Those are just not fun!!

Ashlyn needed to bring a picture to school of where she likes to read.  She decided her bed with all her friends was the best place!

We did have a very late snowstorm so of course Ashlyn and Nate had to build some snowmen.  Sadly they didn't last long.  The snow was gone pretty quick.

As I mentioned in an earlier post we expanded our garden this year so Nate is super excited to fill it this summer.  He decided to buy a bunch of seeds and start our own plants.  He built this shelving unit with heat lights to do it all.  It has been a fun project and we actually have some nice plants in our garden now.

Transferring little plants to bigger pots. (yes, in our kitchen because it was raining!)

Beautiful plants!!

Ashlyn lost her first tooth!!  Actually, Nate pulled it out. Our kids don't have the courage to do it, so Nate usually does it when they aren't expecting it.  There is usually a few tears, but then joy because the tooth is out!

Ashlyn got a butterfly habitat for her birthday so we spent the month of April watching the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly.  It was amazing to watch the little caterpillars grow huge and then get into their chrysalis.  Once they came out we watched them as butterflies for a bit and then let them go in our backyard.  I'm pretty sure we will do it again next year.  It was fun!

Finally, April was crazy because Nate was in the midst of interviewing for a new job.  And yes, he got it! So as of May 1st Nate is no longer employed with Nationwide.  He is now working for a smaller life insurance company called Symetra. He is excited for the change even though he will still be traveling just as much.  I am always wary of change, but if Nate is happy with work then we are all happy! On to bigger and better things!

Gavin is 11 years old!!

Even though it's almost been a month since Gavin's birthday I still can't believe he is 11 years old.  Where does the time go?  Gavin had as good of a birthday as you can have when you have to go to school and piano on your birthday. :) We did find time for presents and cake in the evening.  Nate sent Gavin on a hard scavenger hunt to find his presents.  This helped prolong the opening of the few presents he got.  His last (big) present was a basketball hoop.  He has been telling us all winter that he wanted a hoop, so it was a great Spring birthday present.  We have enjoyed some nice family time shooting hoops!  Gavin is growing into an awesome young man! We sure love him!

Figuring out a clue in the scavenger hunt.

Finding the basketball hoop box hidden in the garage.

Eleven flaming candles!
